This Dining Room Table was made from a single slab of Sapele (a wood in the mahogany family) that measured 42” wide by 10 feet long. One afternoon I casually began counting annual rings and realized, when I was finished, that I was working with a piece of wood that was a seedling when Columbus sailed for the new world. The weight of the slab took on new meaning not the least of which was the great privilege that I felt at being able to work with such a magnificent slab of wood. The design of the base was an adaptation of a much smaller Japanese table in the client’s home. The table now lives in Florida |
